New England Women’s Skydiving Record
PEPPERELL, MA - Over 250 skydivers from all over New England will gather at Skydive Pepperell to participate in the 7th annual New England Boogie – Monday, August 23rd – Sunday, August 26, 2001. The boogie is the largest skydiving event in New England and is open to spectators. More than 250 jumpers are expected to attend. Skydiving will begin everyday at 8am and end at sunset.
Experienced skydivers will be lead by several regional experts as they complete various skydiving formations. A skydiving formation is a predetermined geometric pattern that links the skydivers together as they freefall. Two aircraft, a 21 place deHaviland Twin Otter and a 31-place Aviocar CASA, will carry the jumpers to an altitude of 13,500. The jumpers will have approximately 65 seconds to build their skydiving formations before they must separate to safely open their parachutes by 2,000 feet.
Skydive Pepperell is New England’s oldest continuously operating skydiving center. In operation for more than 30 years the center makes 15,000 –20,000 skydives during it’s 7 month season, April - October. More than 2,000 of these skydives are made by students. Skydive Pepperell is a group member drop zone of the United States Parachute Association (USPA) and a member of the Parachute Industry Association (PIA).
Spectators are invited to attend the free event and are likely to see jumps made every half hour throughout the day. Certified skydiving instructors will be available each day to take up first time jumpers. Food and souvenirs will be available throughout the day at Skip’s Drop-In Café and the Parachute Shop. Nightly barbecues and Boston area bands, Tootsie and Tonnage, will also be featured at the event. Several parachute equipment manufacturers have contributed prizes for the events. The event is sponsored by Skydive Pepperell and Team jumpstart. Team Jumpstart is a cooperative effort of Human Dynamics Assoc., Inc. and Skydive Pepperell which provides adventure based corporate outings, team building, recruiting, and training seminars.
Skydive Pepperell is located approximately 1 hour from Boston on the Nashua, NH border, Route 111, Pepperell, Massachusetts. More information about the event can be found at Skydive Pepperell’s web page.
Photos and digital video of the events will be available upon request.
